How does this work?
To run a steer roper, start by standing a good distance away from the hay bale steer dummy. Hold your lasso with your dominant hand and keep your non-dominant hand ready to control the coil of the rope. Swing the lasso in a circular motion above your head to gain momentum. As you swing, aim the loop of the lasso towards the steer dummy’s head or horns.
Release the lasso at the right moment when the loop is fully extended and aimed accurately. Practice timing and aim to successfully catch the horns or head of the steer dummy with the loop of the lasso. Once the loop catches, quickly pull back on the rope to tighten it around the horns or head of the steer dummy.
To improve your skills, practice regularly to perfect your aim, timing, and the motion of swinging the lasso. Adjust your distance from the dummy and your swing speed as needed to achieve consistent success in roping the steer dummy.
